Flowers

Flowers, originally uploaded by sleepychameleon.

Taken at a vertiginous angle, to be sure, but much more interesting that way, neh?

The Boy brought me these when I was feeling a bit down. It's an interesting combination of blooms, to be sure, which makes me suspect that he put it together instead of simply buying whatever packaged bouquets they had. This is a good thing.

I have a photo, honest!

But first, some of the friday five, which I haven't done in a few years, and now have to resort to doing the livejournal ones instead of the original blog meme that's now defunct.

1. You have the summer and plenty of money to travel abroad. Where all would you go?
First, I'd go on the Korea trip with UCMAP, and then split off with the part of the gang that wants to go to Hong Kong. Then I'd make my way to Shanghai, then head for India via Thailand and Vietnam. While in India, I'd have to stop off at least at Calcutta, Bombay, and New Delhi, then wander up to Nepal and spend a week or two taking it all in. And then I'd be tired of being sweaty and dirty and I think I'd want to go somewhere with hotels, like...Singapore.

2. What foods would you be sure you got to eat?
EVERYTHING. Especially food from street vendors.

3. What landmarks would you be sure you got to see?
Honestly, I don't really care. There's photo opportunities no matter what, and memories don't revolve around landmarks, but people and experiences.

4. What airline would you use?
Whichever had the cheapest big-name ticket.

5. Would your knowledge of other languages influence where you went? (i.e. would you be more likely to go to France if you spoke French?)
Nope. But having contacts at a place might.

Cardinal Motion

Cardinal Motion, originally uploaded by sleepychameleon.

Yeah, I'm back after a little blip there.

This was shot yesterday at filming. The martial arts room is being invaded by Stanford people, and Jolene's on the floor getting a funky angle on the invading Cardinals.

True to form, we're shooting it out of order.

A Novel Doorstop

Yeah, I'm pressed for photos, especially with my own policy of not posting photographs of personal contacts where they can be publicly available. I am, however, whipping out the camera every day....

That, btw, is a fellow demo team member's shoe.

Sproul Hall at 2

Sproul Hall at 2, originally uploaded by sleepychameleon.

All of the shots I took in this last set weren't all that great. Sloppy composition, weird angles. Bleh.

Scrabble tournament, yes. Also a crazy pontificating in the Sovereign Circle--a little patch of land that has its own sovereignty. You could commit a murder in that little thingy and be untouchable--as long as you stayed in it.

Ahh, Berkeley.

The new kind of Berkeley activism.

Oh, it's a reference to ASUC elections, not the national or state ones.

Well, I tried to post a photo.

Apparently Flickr is having a bit of a downage at the moment, so hang tight. I've got a fantastic Berkeley photo to show you guys. :)

Meanwhile, my stomach doesn't appear to want to eat again, so I will be off getting the rest of my day out of the way.

Things I Like About the Boy, Nos. 6 and 7

6. He spoils me rotten, and shows obvious glee in doing so.

7. He cooks. Wonderfully.

Photos are put on hold until I am back in Berkeley. I'm too busy being pampered. ^_^v

sod shot

If you remember a few posts ago, the campanile grass thingy was blocked off. This is the orange fence I was talking about. Apparently I was wrong about letting the grass grow back--if you look carefully, you can see the sod that they lay in. Check out the photostream for a shot :)

APE Independent Comics Panel.

Haha! Did NOT forget to post today.

Will write more about this photograph when I am less dead-tired, or Scott can talk about it in the comments.

Happy Birthday Bear

Happy Birthday Bear, originally uploaded by sleepychameleon.

Whups, skipped another day. Sort of. Haven't yet gone to sleep yet, at least.

I made this little guy out of kleenex and Elmer's glue. The hat is an index card with little c's cut out so it fit around the ears, the pom pom on the hat is teeny strips of drafting vellum folded in half and stuck in a half-hard drop of Sobo glue. The present is an origami balloon made from an imitation post-it note I got back when I worked for an aerospace company, plus organza ribbon I originally bought for my mask project in designing A Midsummer Night's Dream for Costume Design class.

The original Tissue Paper Bear was a crafting how-to I came across in Highlights magazine, when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I think it recommended a scrap of fabric to tie around the bear's neck as a sort of scarf. I made one of those, using a scrap of fabric from my father's tie. These days I probably would take a piece of cotton string and look up how to make a hangman's noose.

Heh. Maybe I'll do that one next.

I am kind of liking the all-white trend that I've been doing lately, though--I attached #1 to my white elephant gift exchange for demo team at Christmas, a bear reading a book; #2 was a bear with angel wings, given to R for the same holiday. However, I've a standing request from Adora for a bear in a hogu, which would necessarily break the color streak. We'll see what happens.

I mean, there's always the hangman's noose.

Excuse

I strongly suspect I will be unable to find the time to upload a photograph today. However, I have someone else's photographs for you to look at: Naomi Harris.

Warning: Not Safe For Work. Contains nudity and I think at least two rather graphic shots of sexual activity, but the beauty is in the details of the photograph. Toothbrush and WWJD come to mind....

At the Foot of the Campanile

Every once in a while, the school puts up orange netting like this because it prevents students from cutting diagonally across that lawn and wearing the collegiate version of a social trail into the grass.

I remember once I wasn't looking where I was going when I came out of LeConte, and almost ran straight into the thing. Heh. I wasn't the only one, though, because it was the first day after it had been put up.

Whups. Skipped a day, there. Still getting the hang of this one a day thing.

Doesn't that poppy look good enough to eat? Although it's a bit bright. I'll start playing with the contrasts and things in a little bit, after I train myself to take more photos.

Indoor Pool

Indoor Pool, originally uploaded by sleepychameleon.

Ok, I lied. I can't upload the whole set because evidently that would exceed my upload limit for the month, SO...the plan right now is to continue on my one a day mission until the end of the month, where I take advantage of the oncoming turnover and upload the whole damn lot.

Anyway, here's the indoor pool at Hearst Castle, which I almost like better because it's so quiet and still and dark blue, but still has some light flickering through. I remember this pool from the last time I visited more than I remembered the outdoor pool. I think I like this shot because of the clear reflection in the water.

Hearst Castle Pool

Hearst Castle Pool, originally uploaded by sleepychameleon.

Was thinking of not posting this one, but my other choice was a shot of Hearst Castle from a distance, atop its hill, but marred by the road and a reflective sticky thing at the bottom. You'll see it if you look at my account when I upload it into the set. At least this one has the nice blue of the pool.

Probably the last Hearst Castle shot. I'll upload the lot tomorrow or the day after, and then it's on to new photos!

Hearst Castle Grounds Landscape

Still testing out my new camera here. For a while when I was in high school, I took a lot of photographs that were a whole lot of sky and just a little bit of landscape at the bottom. Then I came to Berkeley and saw Robert Misrach's exhibit at the Art Museum, and decided that I didn't want to do the same thing, even though I had arrived at that kind of composition on my own and he had made a career out of shooting photographs of mostly sky.

Here, though, I probably would have shot most of the sky if I hadn't been limited by the speed of the bus and the bus window and the admonition that we were to keep all parts of our person within the vehicle (which I actually listen to after hearing about a classmate's grandmother who tried to cool off by sticking her head outside a bus window and met her demise via decapitation from oncoming vehicle). Sky is pretty. Sky is large, and we city-dwellers tend to get too wrapped up in our lives and our streets and our skyscrapers to realize that compared to the size of the world, we really are kind of insignificant.

Oh, and sorry about the break. I got distracted by the boy's visiting for a weekend, and then spent yesterday moping that he was gone. We are back to our regularly scheduled photographs, and I have started shooting again.
